In Venice all set for the 2nd edition of Murano Illumina il Mondo
Eleven internationally renowned artists accepted the challenge to create, together with the masters of Murano, eleven splendid glass chandeliers that will be displayed under the vaults of the Procuratie Vecchie in St. Mark's Square from the end of November to the end of February.

Murano glass is back in the spotlight in Venice, once again illuminating St. Mark's Square with the second edition of Murano Illumina il Mondo. From the end of November to the end of February, the city will be able to admire eleven extraordinary chandeliers that will light up every night, the result of a collaboration with eleven of the most prestigious Murano furnaces, which have offered their knowledge for free, combining tradition and innovation. The project, promoted by The Venice Glass Week and the City of Venice, involves eleven renowned international artists and architects, including Joseph Kosuth, Philippe Starck and Kengo Kuma, invited to reinterpret an everyday object such as the chandelier, using a combination of traditional and modern techniques of glassmaking. The artists, joined by Murano's master glassmakers, accepted the challenge, resulting in original and striking creations that testify to the fruitful dialogue between Murano art glass and contemporary art.
Participants in the project include such notable names as Kimiko Yoshida, Marina and Susanna Sent, Emmanuel Babled, Hans Weigand, Joseph Kosuth, Philippe Starck, Deborah Czeresko, Fiedler O'Mastrangelo, Kengo Kuma, and the group consisting of Arturo Tedeschi, Nicola Moretti, and Matteo Silverio. In addition, students from the Abate Zanetti School in Murano contributed. The furnaces involved in the creation of the chandeliers are Gianni Seguso, Marina and Susanna Sent, NasonMoretti, Berengo Studio, AAV Barbini Specchi Veneziani, Aristide Najean, Massimiliano Schiavon, Giorgio Giuman, Salviati, Vetrate Artistiche Murano, and the Abate Zanetti School. Coordination of the project, particularly the management of relations between artists and furnaces, was handled by Giordana Naccari.
