Empoli will celebrate Masolino da Panicale with an exhibition in 2024. City administration seeks sponsors

In 2024, the Municipality of Empoli will celebrate Masolino da Panicale with an exhibition. The exhibition aims to reconstruct the cultural context in which the artist moved and intends to bring together as many of his works in Empoli as possible. The municipal administration is seeking sponsors.

In 2024 the Municipality of Empoli will celebrate Masolino da Panicale (Panicale, 1383 - Florence, 1440/1447) with an exhibition. In fact, six hundred years will have passed since the creation of the cycle of frescoes with Stories of the True Cross in the church of Santo Stefano degli Agostiniani and the Vir dolorum, now preserved in the Museo della Collegiata in Empoli. Curated by Andrea De Marchi, Silvia De Luca and Francesco Suppa, the exhibition aims to reconstruct the cultural context in which Masolino moved and the original characters of his personality. To this end, it is intended to bring together precisely in Empoli as many of Masolino’s works as possible, so as to help fully understand them. Moreover, the exhibition project is part of a real season of research that has affected Empoli, its monuments and its territory in recent years and that has involved new openings and acquisitions on its historical and artistic heritage. The novelties that have emerged from this series of studies form the backbone of the exhibition, which will be housed in the Pinacoteca della Collegiata di Sant’Andrea and for the most part inside Santo Stefano from April 6 to July 7, 2024.

Empoli 1424. Masolino and the Dawn of the Renaissance, this is the title of the exhibition, is made possible thanks to the important commitment of the municipal administration and the contribution of the Fondazione CR Firenze.

“For more than a year now,” said Mayor Brenda Barnini, “the museums’ management and the curators of the exhibition have been working on a project of high scientific value that will materialize in the 2024 exhibition. The value of the project is such that both the city administration and the Fondazione CR Firenze have decided to invest significantly in it. This is a great opportunity from the cultural point of view, an all-round investment, at a historical moment in which culture and art are increasingly proving to be a strategic resource of growth for the territory and its citizens. That’s why I believe that private individuals, companies, and associations should also feel involved and can lend a hand so that the project can be defined in every detail.”

The city administration warns that it is looking for sponsors to support the exhibition. There is time until Sunday, December 31, 2023 to respond to the notice published by the City of Empoli for the public selection of interested parties. The notice is addressed to all private citizens, entities, associations, advertising agencies or broadcasting concessionaires, and intermediary agencies, who intend to bring their contribution to the success of the exhibition. The use of sponsorship is to be understood as an effective means of support to pursue institutional purposes and will make it possible to improve the quality of the proposed events and support them financially, in whole or in part, with a benefit for the municipal budget as well. On the basis of the bids, either in cash or in the form of provision of goods and services, parties will be identified to enter into collaboration agreements for the purpose of sponsorship. The call for bids and the application outline can be downloaded from the website of the Municipality of Empoli, from the Still Open Calls for Tenders section, at the link https://www.comune.empoli.fi.it/avviso/avviso-pubblico-sponsorizzazioni-mostra-masolino
