Extended until September 1, 2019, the exhibition Giorgio De Chirico. The Face of Metaphysics, running from March 30, 2019 at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa.

The exhibition, curated by Victoria Noel-Johnson and produced and organized by ViDi, in collaboration with Palazzo Ducale Fondazione per la Cultura and the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation, presents about one hundred works created by Giorgio de Chirico over the course of his artistic career. Through these, the exhibition aims to offer a critical review of the artist’s activity, precisely one hundred years after de Chirico’s decision in 1919 to devote himself to styles and techniques inspired by Classicism and the great masters of the past.

As the curator states, the aim of the exhibition is to promote the interpretation of a continuous metaphysics, where the artist’s entire production, despite variations in style, technique, subject, composition and color tone, is to be considered metaphysical.

Thus, the themes addressed in the exhibition are travel and return, with works such as The Wandering Jew, Ulysses (Self-Portrait), Return of Ulysses, metaphysical exteriors and interiors, figures, troubadours-mannequins,mythological characters, uncanny muses, and finally tradition, with allusions to fifteenth- and sixteenth-century portraiture and free interpretations of works by great masters such as Courbet, Renoir, Raphael and Perugino.
