Magnum Photos is celebrated at the Diocesan Museum in Milan: from Cartier-Bresson to Paolo Pellegrin

The Diocesan Museum in Milan hosts a major exhibition celebrating Magnum Photos from May 9 to July 22, 2018: shots by Cartier-Bresson, Capa, Seymour and many others.

From May 9 to July 22, 2018, the Diocesan Museum in Milan is hosting the exhibition"Magnum’s Italy. From Cartier-Bresson to Paolo Pellegrin" curated by the director of CAMERA - Italian Center for Photography in Turin, Walter Guadagnini.

The exhibition is held on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of Magnum Photos, the foundation born thanks to Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, David Seymour, George Rodger and William Vandivert.

Beginning with Cartier-Bresson, Capa and Seymour with images from their travels in Italy, the photographic exhibition will continue with more than one hundred images taken by twenty of the most important photographers of the 20th century, telling the history, news and customs of Italy from the postwar period to the present.

The exhibition will be divided by decades: the 1950s will be represented by Elliott Erwitt, René Burri and Herbert List; the 1960s by the photographs of Thomas Hoepker, Bruno Barbey and Erich Lessing. The 1970s will open with Ferdinando Scianna ’s Sicily and the images of Leonard Freed and Raymond Depardon, and the 1980s with Martin Parr ’s large photographs and Patrick Zachmann ’s images of the Neapolitan Camorra.
The 1990s and the first decade of the new century will instead be narrated by Alex Majoli, Thomas Dworzak, Peter Marlow, and Chris Steele Perkins.
The exhibition will end with Paolo Pellegrin ’s shots depicting the crowd in St. Peter’s Square in Rome during the vigil for the death of Pope John Paul II and a barge in the Mediterranean Sea loaded with migrants.
