Paolo Maggis' painting returns to exhibition in Milan with solo show Sulla pelle

From Nov. 24, 2023 to Jan. 18, 2024, Fabbrica Eos Gallery in Milan will host Paolo Maggis' solo exhibition "On the Skin." On display are the artist's works from recent years.

The Fabbrica Eos Gallery in Milan hosts from November 24, 2023 to January 18, 2024 the exhibition Sulla pelle (On the Skin), a synthesis of Paolo Maggis ’ work in recent years. After a moment of research on the structures of painting documented by the book Close-up (curated by Alberto Mattia Martini, Zel publisher 2019), strengthened by that experience that brought his work to the limits of abstraction, the artist has returned to treating the image in a more descriptive and analytical way.

If first of all the skin is for Maggis the embodiment through which to see and feel the vibrations of the body animated by feelings, emotions and thoughts, secondly it indicates the surface of the painting that, shaken by strong and nervous gestures, becomes skin in turn, introducing the viewer to a more complex and articulated vision. The painting lives in harmony with the subject while maintaining its independence, sometimes going so far as to cancel the boundaries that separate the subject from the space.

While maintaining a strong aesthetic, Paolo Maggis’ works introduce elements of rupture, fragments, interference and distortion. The artist prefers the sublime to the beautiful, that is, that wounded beauty that carries with it deep pain or tragedy.

The exhibition anticipates the release of the forthcoming book TREMORE, which will house within it some 40 works painted between 2020 and 2023.
