Primitive Elements, Francesco Bosso's solo exhibition at the Stelline Gallery

The Stelline Gallery in Milan is hosting from Oct. 23 to Dec. 14, 2019, the solo exhibition of photographer Francesco Bosso, Primitive Elements.

The spaces of Galleria delle Stelline in Milan will host from October 23 to December 14, 2019 the solo exhibition of photographer Francesco Bosso (Barletta, 1959), entitled Primitive Elements.

Curated by Filippo Maggia, the exhibition will display more than forty medium- and large-format photographs and a documentary video with an interview with the artist. The exhibition is intended to be a synthesis of his photographic research completed over the past fifteen years in areas of the world that are still unspoiled.

The shots featured will be a path of knowledge among natural sceneries and landscapes: glaciers, cliffs, oceans, virgin islands, rainforests. Intent is to stimulate urgent awareness of the need to protect the environment and a cultural change based on the responsible use of natural resources, especially water. Significant in this regard are Bosso’s shots in the Arctic, where global warming is causing dramatic effects.

A landscape photographer trained in the American school of Kim Weston, John Sexton and Alan Ross, Bosso takes exclusively black-and-white photographs on large-format film and personally prints all works in a darkroom.

“An anomalous photographer compared to the contemporary scene, as exclusive in his personal research as in his method of investigation and indifferent to the trends that characterize the use of images today, Bosso tends to displace the viewer by inviting him to silence and contemplation, far removed therefore from the need to strike and attack that unites much of today’s production characterized by images that are born to be quickly consumed and immediately replaced by others,” says the curator of the exhibition.

Primitive Elements will have an installation in which islands of light will alternate with areas of shadow to restore the condition of anticipation and awe that the photographer experienced firsthand.
