Tibet in the art of Han Yuchen on display in Genoa at Palazzo Ducale

One of China ’s leading contemporary oil painting artists has been depicting Tibet and its people for years, amid mystical inclination, spiritual strength and amazing resilience to extreme weather conditions. From Thursday, Sept. 12 to Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, the Sala del Munizioniere at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa will host Splendor and Purity: Tibet in the Art of Han Yuchen, the first Genoese solo exhibition of Chinese master Han Yuchen curated by Donatella Failla. The exhibition is curated by Donatella Failla and is organized under the patronage of the City of Genoa. The catalog is by Sagep Editori.

Painter, calligrapher, photographer, professor emeritus, congressman, successful entrepreneur and founder of a museum dedicated to 19th-century European painting in Handan in Hebei Province (China): Han Yuchen is an artist with a thousand faces and extraordinary resources. His works are part of collections in every corner of the world, from the private collection of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy to the National Museum of China.

In Splendor and Purity, the Chinese artist depicts Tibet and its people. “Han Yuchen’s painting technique is masterful,” says Donatella Failla, curator of the exhibition, “as he manages to capture the power of light, the vividness of color and the atmospheric splendor of great altitudes. This extraordinary mastery of formal and technical means allows the artist to portray with powerful realism the daily life linked to the natural environments, to document the persistence of nomadic and pastoral, monastic and social traditions in a very rich series of individual and group portraits that with vibrant and very human accents tell us about the existential and spiritual destiny of the people of the ’Roof of the World,’ intimately pervaded by the brightness of the sky and the purity of the earth and air.”
