From December 30, 2023 to March 8, 2024, the Vittoriale degli Italiani, in the Secret D’Annunzio Museum, presents the exhibition Come un oro caldo e fluido. The Golds of Umberto Mastroianni, curated by Alberto Dambruoso on a project by Cigno GG Edizioni Roma and strongly desired by President Giordano Bruno Guerri. Uncle of the famous actor Marcello Mastroianni, Umberto Mastroianni was one of the most brilliant sculpture artists of the 20th century.

The exhibition will display thirty pieces of jewelry and twenty sculptures traceable to Mastroianni’s sculpture-painting. A fruitful scattering of rings, bracelets, pendants, brooches, other jewelry, plates and sculptures made by the artist between the 1950s and 1990s using the technique of ’lost-wax’ or ’gold casting,’ treating the material as if it were bronze or glass, again in casting. It is through the use of such a ductile and precious material that Mastroianni makes a synthesis of his artistic journey, letting his aggressive, fantastic and hard telluric universe shine through in his jewelry. The key to the interpretation of his jewelry is given by the master himself, who in 1965, in the volume Ori e Poesie, associates the precious metal of soft paste, ductile almost like wax, with instinctive gestuality.

The exhibition is open to the public Wednesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
