Marcello’s Palazzetto, a new exhibition space located on Calle del Dose, just a short walk from Campo Santa Maria Formosa, has opened in the heart of Venice. The building, which has undergone restoration, is now open to the public with the goal of becoming a cultural hub dedicated to the relationship between artistic and architectural heritage and contemporary research.
The project stems from the collection of collector Gianrico Specchio, developed over more than twenty years of research. The collection, born from a desire to continue a personal dialogue with art, explores the connections between the visual arts, design, and architecture from the 1950s to the present day. Palazzetto Marcello is not conceived as a mere container for the collection: the heritage is viewed as a dynamic resource, capable of generating knowledge, relationships, and engagement in the present.
The choice of the Santa Maria Formosa neighborhood stems from the desire to situate this initiative within a vibrant residential part of the city, fostering ties with the local community while also connecting with Venice’s international cultural network. The project also envisions collaboration with nearby institutions, including the Querini Stampalia Foundation and Palazzo Grimani.
The restoration of the exhibition spaces was carried out by Studio 91, under the supervision of architects Laura Zamboni and Emma Madinelli. The rooms on the ground floor and the piano nobile feature an open and flexible layout, designed to evolve over time and accommodate temporary exhibitions and new projects.
Kicking off this new chapter will be a solo exhibition by Luca Bertolo (Milan, 1968), titled *L’inizio ci assale*, curated by Elena Volpato. The artist, who lives and works in Seravezza, conceived the project specifically for the palace’s spaces. The exhibition will be open from November 5, 2026, to February 14, 2027, Thursday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
