The House with the Mosaic Atrium and the Wattle-and-Daub House at the Herculaneum Archaeological Park will reopen to the public on November 5, following the completion of conservation restoration work. The reopening is part of the park’s 5-million-euro program.
On November 5, 2026, the House of the Mosaic Atrium and the Wattle-and-Daub House—two of the most important residences in ancient Herculaneum—will reopen to the public after decades of closure. The presentation will take place at 11 a.m. in the Antiquarium, in the presence of the director of the Archaeological Park, Federica Colaiacomo.
The reopening marks a new phase of the Domus Project, a conservation and restoration program involving six residences at the site. Following the House of the Tuscan Colonnade and the House of the Wooden Shrine, which reopened in March 2025, and the House of the Charred Furniture, which has been accessible since July 2026, the project continues with two additional complexes. The initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Packard Humanities Institute, through the Packard Institute for Cultural Heritage, and funded with 5 million euros from the 2014–2020 FSC funds of the “Vesuvius – Pompeii – Naples” Institutional Development Contract.
