On Wednesday, April 3, at 9:15 p.m. premiering on Rai 5, Art Night will feature a special dedicated to Lucio Fontana, one of the greatest artists of the second half of the 20th century. Produced by Rai Cultura, written by Valeria Schiavoni and directed by Barbara Pozzoni, the special episode condenses in just under an hour the richness of Lucio Fontana’s research and the variety of his experiments, with the intention of restoring the flavor of a period of great ferment in a booming city, Milan. Indeed, the Lombard capital holds his works in the Monumental Cemetery, in some private homes, as well as in the Church of San Fedele, the Museo del Novecento, the Museo Diocesano, the Gallerie d’Italia, and the Fondazione Prada.

Throughout his activity, Lucio Fontana experimented with the most varied materials: ceramics, bronze, mosaic, different paints and even light. He was attracted to everything that smelled of novelty; in 1952 he was even attracted to the first experiments on television broadcasting, on which he wrote a manifesto.

Today Lucio Fontana is universally known mostly for his Spatial Concepts/Attese, his Holes and even more for his Cuts but, when the artist proposed them, the time was not ripe enough and only a few understood and supported him.

The special episode of Art Night aims to be a unique and original narrative, in a way rarely addressed by documentary production, and enriched by numerous interviews: Luca Massimo Barbero scientific director Fondazione Lucio Fontana, Silvia Ardemagni President Fondazione Lucio Fontana, Maria Villa Vice-President Fondazione Lucio Fontana, Francesco Tedeschi contemporary art historian, Fausta Squatriti artist, Father Andrea Dall’Asta director Museo San Fedele, Barbara Ferriani restorer, Marina Pugliese director MUDEC Museo delle culture, Ilaria De Palma Conservatore Responsabile - Case Museo Unit, Luca Bochicchio contemporary art historian. Teche Rai preserves some of his precious interviews, an opportunity to listen to his reflections on art directly from his voice.
