On Monday, January 29, 2018, at 6 p.m., the presentation of the book “The Rediscovery of the Seventeenth Century: Founding Books,” edited by Andrea Bacchi of the University of Bologna and Liliana Barroero of theUniversity of Roma Tre, will be held at the Palazzo Barberini in Rome.The book is a compilation of the outcomes of a seminar edited by Bacchi and Barroero and sponsored by the 1563 Foundation for Art and Culture of the Compagnia di San Paolo as part of its program of studies on the age and culture of the Baroque, directed by Michela di Macco of theSapienza University of Rome.

Each of the authors of the essays (Andrea Bacchi, Liliana Barroero, Giovanna Capitelli, Elisa Coletta, Valeria Di Giuseppe Di Paolo, Michela di Macco, Tomaso Montanari, Giovanna Perini Folesani, Stefano Pierguidi, Yuri Primarosa, Giovanni Romano, Lucia Simonato, Maddalena Spagnolo, Maria Cristina Terzaghi, Stefania Ventra, and Arnold Witte) “rereads” one of the books that, in the opinion of the editors, have significantly marked and mark the studies on seventeenth-century Italian art, from “Renaissance und Barock” by Heinrich Wölfflin (1888) to Stella Rudolph ’s “Niccolò Maria Pallavicini” (1995), offering a critical treatment of it from today’s perspective.
