Third edition of The Venice Glass Week kicks off

From September 6 to 15, 2019, the third edition of The Venice Glass Week, an international festival dedicated to the art of glass, will be held.

From Friday, September 6, 2019, the third edition of The Venice Glass Week, an international festival dedicated to the art of glass involving Venice, Murano and its mainland, will begin. Promoted by the Municipality of Venice and conceived by Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, Fondazione Giorgio Cini - LE STANZE DEL VETRO and Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, the event will involve the participation of more than 150 realities and over 180 events between Venice, Murano and Mestre, concluding on September 15, 2019.

The fulcrum of the major event will be The Venice Glass Week HUB, curated by Rosa Barovier Mentasti and realized in collaboration with the Green Spin company and the students of the course in Curatorial Practice of IED Venice, a partner of the festival.

The diffuse festival program will consist of the most varied initiatives scattered throughout the territory. Most of them with free admission, the initiatives, including exhibitions, guided tours, conferences, seminars, award ceremonies, screenings, educational activities, running races among the furnaces, parties, aperitifs and open furnaces, will have artistic glass as their main theme and will appeal to an audience of all ages.

Also from this year is the Bonhams Prize for The Venice Glass Week, sponsored by the New York Department of 20th Century Decorative Arts and Design of Bonhams, an international auction house founded in London in 1793 and one of the largest and most importantauction houses in the world specializing in art, antiques, automobiles, and jewelry; the awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere e Arti in the Palazzo Franchetti venue, where a cash prize of 1,000 euros will be awarded.
