An exhibition in Jesi dedicated to Giuseppe Chiari and his reflection on music

From June 27 to November 22, 2020, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi is hosting the exhibition Giuseppe Chiari. Sound, Word, Action.

From June 27 to November 22, 2020, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi in collaboration with the Roberto Casamonti Collection presents at Palazzo Bisaccioni the exhibition Giuseppe Chiari. Sound, Word, Action, curated by Stefano Verri.

The exhibition aims to retrace the activity of Giuseppe Chiari as a musician, composer and conceptual artist, among the most significant figures in twentieth-century Italian art.

Through more than thirty visual works and a selection of videos, it will be possible to understand the path of research that Chiari made between the 1970s and the 1980s.

Close to the Fluxus milieu, the artist used music as a privileged language to mark the break with traditional arts that this neo-avant-garde movement proposed starting in the early 1960s. A reflection that will lead him to rethink music, to question its fundamental canons in order to arrive at new theoretical insights that tend toward the totality and universality of artistic making.

“Chiari is an extraordinary artist, one of the absolute protagonists of Italian conceptual art,” comments curator Stefano Verri. “A musician, a composer, an intellectual who by breaking every scheme with intelligence and irony, through art, testified to his deep civil commitment. This exhibition intends to create a path made of suggestions through some of the different lines of research that have characterized his long and wonderful work,” he concludes.

The exhibition will begin with pentagrams that the artist conceptually translates into a visual dimension, transforming them with colors, signs and erasures. He creates a mixture of languages by making a series of drawings, graphic and photographic works that introduce the performative dimension and musical production, witnessed by a selection of videos.
