From June 22 to July 31, the Charles V Castle in Monopoli is hosting an exhibition dedicated to Andy Warhol: 'Pop Art Identities.

In one of Puglia’s symbolic places, a castle with an extraordinary history, the exhibition Andy Warhol - Pop Art Identities opens from June 22 to July 31, a systematic selection of original artworks by one of the noble fathers of contemporary art, flanked by video documents that will offer visitors a comprehensive view of the life and work of Andy Warhol (Pittsburgh, Aug. 6, 1928 - New York, Feb. 22, 1987).

Focusing on the theme of identity, as relevant as ever for its different contemporary declinations, produced and organized by MetaMorfosi Eventi in collaboration with MostreLab and Wall Drawings and the patronage of the Municipality of Monopoli, the exhibition curated by historian and art critic Maurizio Vanniart historian Maurizio Vanni and coordinated by curator and art critic Lorenzo Madaro, will open on June 22 on the main floor of Monopoli’s Carlo V Castle, featuring numerous original works by Andy Warhol, including Campbell’s Soup, Marilyn, and Mao, as well as a number of films featuring the artist as a protagonist.

“Monopoli is really proud to host at the Charles V Castle some significant works by Andy Warhol, making a further step forward in its cultural and tourist proposal. By hosting an exhibition with a capital M, we offer the citizens and the many tourists who will come to spend a vacation period in our territory some of the works of a cross-generational art genius,” says Monopoli Mayor Angelo Annese.

“With the Andy Warhol exhibition, the cultural proposal of the City of Monopoli makes a further step forward, effectively bringing Monopoli among the Italian cities that host major art exhibitions. Thirty-five years after his death, Andy Warhol’s artistic insight lives again in Monopoli thanks to his extraordinary works coming from private collections. A great artistic heritage of the highest level of an eccentric artist who changed the history of art and who today lives again in Monopoli,” emphasizes Monopoli City Councilor for Culture Rosanna Perricci.

"The exhibition with Warhol’s works is not only an event of high cultural value but also an extraordinary operation of tourism marketing and a tool for the enhancement of the city’s cultural places linked to history that become a promotional opportunity of national and international relevance, allowing to attract visitors to the city from all overItaly and beyond," says Monopoli City Councilor for Tourism Cristian Iaia.
