At MA*GA in Gallarate, Chiara Dynys' solo exhibition on Melancholia

MA*GA in Gallarate hosts Melancholia, a solo exhibition by Chiara Dynys. February 26 through May 8, 2022.

From February 26 to May 8, 2022, MA*GA in Gallarate (Varese, Italy) hosts Melancholia, a solo exhibition by Chiara Dynys.

The exhibition presents the multiple issues related to the word Melancholia: from the saturnine temperament that, according to medieval tradition, has always been characteristic of the artist, to the multiple references to the history of art and especially to the history of cinema.

The artist’s poetics is shown through his filmic imagery, including suggestions from some central directors in the history of cinema, from Roberto Rossellini to Jane Campion to Lars Von Trier, from Federico Fellini to Paolo Sorrentino.
The exhibition itinerary, unprecedented and designed specifically for the venue, is built to enhance narratives and moving images characterized by light.

For the occasion, in the library spaces of the HIC - Hub of the Cultural Institutes of the City of Gallarate, the permanent installation Enlightening Books will be presented, donated to the museum thanks to WEM, Empowering Art Platform, an innovative platform that aims to find new forms of dissemination and support for contemporary visual arts.

The exhibition will be accompanied by the monograph Chiara Dynys and the Filmic Imaginary published by Skira, which explores, from a historical-critical perspective, the reflections proposed in the exhibition.
