Florence, Neo Rauch's solo exhibition at Palazzo Pitti with works from 2006 to 2019

A solo exhibition of one of the most important contemporary German artists, Neo Rauch (Leipzig, 1960), arrives at Palazzo Pitti from October 16 to December 1, 2019, entitled Neo Rauch. Works from 2006 to 2019, which displays many paintings created specifically by the artist for the spaces of theAndito degli Angiolini.

Neo Rauch, born in Leipzig in 1960, is considered the greatest exponent of East German painting after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Monographic exhibitions have been dedicated to him at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, in Montréal, and at theAlbertina in Vienna, and now for the first time his work lands in Italy, with many paintings created specifically by the artist for the spaces of the Andito degli Angiolini at Palazzo Pitti. These nineteenth-century settings prove congenial to Rauch’s poetic and often enigmatic visions, which challenge the viewer by drawing on figurative sources and GermanRomanticism, and which in their deep investigation of the human condition reveal the influence of Socialist Realism and Surrealism.

The exhibition is curated by Max Seidel and Serena Calamai.
