In 2021, a major exhibition in Forli will celebrate Dante with works from the Uffizi and around the world

A major exhibition dedicated to Dante is planned in Forli next year to celebrate 700 years since his death. Loans from around the world.

A major exhibition to celebrate the seven hundredth anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death, with works from the Uffizi Galleries and around the world. Announcing the important event to be held next year in Forlì was the director of the Uffizi himself, Eike Schmidt, although the official announcement will be made on Thursday, July 9, during an initiative at the Magliabechiana Library of the Florentine museum headquarters.

“To celebrate Dante Alighieri on the seven hundredth anniversary of the Supreme Poet’s death next year, we are organizing a major exhibition dedicated to him,” Schmidt said. "It will be in Forlì, a strongly symbolic place, because in those lands the author of the Comedy spent some years of his exile. Forlì also lies along the itinerary between Florence, his birthplace, and Ravenna, where he is buried: therefore, by electing it as the venue for the exhibition we want to honor all the stages of Dante’s biography, symbolically embracing the Tuscan-Romagna territory. For this extraordinary initiative the Uffizi Galleries will provide, in addition to art historians, some of their works related to Dante and his times, but there will also be loans from all over the world," he concluded.

The project will be announced together with the Galleries’ partner for this exhibition, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Forlì. “With me and the president of the Foundation Roberto Pinza will be the representatives of these two territories, united in the homage to Alighieri: the president of the Emilia Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini, the mayors of Florence and Forlì, Dario Nardella and Gianluca Zattini, together with the mayor of Poppi, Luca Toni, and the mayor of San Godenzo, Emanuele Piani,” explained the director of the Galleries.
