In Modena, Daughters of Fire: three women artists on display with sculptures and paintings

From July 8 to Sept. 17, 2022, the Former Church and Nun's Hall in Modena will host the exhibition "Daughters of Fire." It features three Modena artists.

In the spaces of the Ex Chiesa and Sala delle Monache in Modena, the exhibition Figlie del fuoco, curated by Barbara Codogno, will be open to the public from July 8 to September 17, 2022.

The protagonists will be Modena-based artists Enrica Berselli, Alice Padovani and Federica Poletti. The title refers to the work that sealed the brief earthly existence of Romantic writer Gérard de Nerval, who elected the dream as a bridge between reality and the supernatural.

The exhibition includes wax sculptures by Enrica Berselli, which reconstruct the body from its relics, three large mixed media works on paper by Alice Padovani, and paintings by Federica Poletti in which the unspoken surfaces despite its masking. The title of one of the oils in the exhibition, Friction, was given to Poletti by Massimo Recalcati, as a tribute to the hiatus of being, the friction of existing.

The exhibition also concludes with achoral work, titled Daughters of Fire, created jointly by the three authors as a tribute to the female silhouettes of Cuban artist Ana Mendieta. The installation consists of the silhouettes of the three artists, traced with charcoal in line with their respective research, and some additional works placed inside the silhouettes as residual embers.

On the occasion of the Festivalfilosofia of Modena, Carpi and Sassuolo, to be held from September 16 to 18, 2022), now in its 22nd edition dedicated to the theme of justice, the exhibition will include the event “The Law of Bodies,” in which the artists will exhibit new works related to the themes of the Festival.
