Microcosm, an international group show recreates the small world of Valmontone's Palazzo Doria Pamphilj

From February 16 to March 31, 2019, Valmontone is hosting the exhibition 'Microcosm. Visions of contemporary landscapes from the world'.

Running from February 16 to March 31, 2019, is the exhibition Microcosm. Visions of Contemporary Landscapes from the World, at the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj Museum in Valmontone, Rome. The exhibition, curated by Antonio Trimani and Monica Di Gregorio, welcomes works by artists from around the world. The Microcosm was the “small world” that Camillo Pamphilj, in the mid-seventeenth century, intended to recreate in his suburban residence, entrusting some of the leading artists of the time with allegorical depictions of the four elements and the four parts of the world then known.

The four rooms frescoed with the allegories of the four continents, on the occasion of the Microcosm exhibition, will host about seventy works by forty different artists, thus becoming a place for comparison and interpretation of the contemporary landscape understood in its meaning of “microcosm” and “macrocosm,” elements that unite all the invited protagonists, a theme that is declined according to the visions, poetics and modus operandi of each, expressing unity in diversity, from global to glocal.

The artists’ interventions, as usual, will follow strictly following the alphabetical order by continent of belonging.
