Milan, at Gallerie d'Italia a photographic exhibition on the history of La Scala premiere

The Gallerie d'Italia in Milan's Piazza Scala is hosting the photography exhibition "Prima della Prima. The Rite of the Inauguration of La Scala in the Intesa Sanpaolo Publifoto Archive" until Feb. 14, 2022.

Until February 14, 2022, the Gallerie d’Italia - Piazza Scala in Milan is hosting in the Sala delle Colonne the photographic exhibition Prima della Prima. The rite of the inauguration of La Scala in the Intesa Sanpaolo Publifoto Archive, curated by Aldo Grasso.

The exhibition aims to trace the history of the customary ceremony represented by the inauguration of La Scala Theater through a selection of photographs, some of which have never been seen before, fromIntesa Sanpaolo’s Publifoto Archive. The La Scala premiere on Dec. 7 not only represents the opening night of the season of the world’s most famous opera house, but it is also a social event that has taken on a very strong social and media relevance.

The exhibition is punctuated chronologically and revolves around three symbolic years in La Scala’s postwar history: 1946, with the rebirth from the rubble of war; 1951, the year in which the theater’s season opened, for the first time, on December 7, the day of the city’s patron saint, St. Ambrose; and 1968, with the student protests that had a great echo, even internationally.

Prima della Prima at the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan is also intended to be a cultural tribute to the city, directly curated by Intesa Sanpaolo, former sponsor of La Scala Theater.
