From September 19 to October 19, 2026, Frinco Castle, in the Monferrato region of Asti (Asti), will host *RADICI. Genealogy of a Monster*, an exhibition conceived and curated by Trentino-based artist Bruno Fantelli. The project brings together over one hundred artists—each very different from the others—who have been invited to create a personal genealogy composed of encounters, influences, friendships, mentors, collaborations, and the people who have shaped Fantelli’s artistic development and exploration.
The exhibition stems from the question of how much of who we become is also shaped by the people we encounter along the way. Among the artists involved are friends and fellow travelers, but also mentors—people capable of offering advice, an opportunity, or encouragement. Some works are deeply familiar; others stem from encounters that lasted only a brief moment; still others have been observed from a distance. No hierarchy is therefore established: an image, a conversation, an exhibition, a review, a collaboration, or a gesture of trust can all leave a mark.
His relationship with Frinco is also part of this story. Fantelli trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and lived in the lagoon city for years. In 2025, he arrived at Frinco Castle for an artist residency, forming such a strong bond with the place and the town that he decided to move there and buy a home. A year later, he returned to the same castle with *RADICI*, reflecting on his own history and the people who helped shape it.
Genealogy of a Monster stems from the idea that an artist is never built in isolation, but is a complex and contradictory organism, formed by grafts, collisions, debts, rejections, enthusiasms, and influences. The monster is therefore a creature devoid of pure form, composed of different and sometimes incongruous parts, capable of transforming itself and generating new forms. Finally, *ROOTS* takes the form of a thank-you to those who have taught, supported, challenged, or accompanied Fantelli, and to those who, even unwittingly, have left their mark on his journey. Not a complete family tree, but a provisional snapshot of roots that continue to grow.
