Treasures of the Orient on display at the Labirinto della Masone


The Labirinto della Masone in Fontanellato will host Franco Maria Ricci's exhibition Treasures of the Orient from July 1 to October 14, 2018.

From July 1 to October 14, 2018, the Labirinto della Masone in Fontanellato will host the exhibition Treasures of the Orient by Franco Maria Ricci.

About twenty selected pieces, including some never exhibited before, from prestigious private Italian and Portuguese collections and a number of museums will be on display.

These are finely crafted objects in ivory, mother-of-pearl, semi-precious stones and other precious materials, and through this exhibition visitors will understand the complex trade and cultural relations between the Asian territories colonized by the Portuguese, during the era of the great discoveries.

The exhibition is curated by Pedro Moura Carvalho, an art historian and specialist in the history of applied arts, in collaboration with the Franco Maria Ricci Foundation.

The exhibition is accompanied by a book about how in the Renaissance refined works of art made in Asia from exotic materials first came to Europe as a result of colonization.

Admission is included in the Masone Labyrinth entrance fee: full 18 euros (reductions indicated on the website), which also includes access to the bamboo labyrinth and Franco Maria Ricci’s permanent collection.
