What the Ukraine Pavilion at Biennale 2026 will look like: Zhanna Kadyrova with "Security Guarantees"

Zhanna Kadyrova's sculpture Origami Deer, a symbol of fragility and resilience, will be exhibited in Venice and on a European tour, telling the recent history of Ukraine and questioning the meaning of security guarantees.

Zhanna Kadyrova ’s project Security Guarantees will be presented at the Ukrainian Pavilion during the 61st International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, scheduled from May 9 to November 22, 2026. The work, which combines symbolism and historical memory, offers a reflection on fragility and resilience through the sculpture Origami Deer, originally created in 2019 in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, Ukraine. The installation stood on the site of a dismantled Soviet aircraft once used to carry nuclear weapons, evoking military tensions and memories.

The exhibition is curated by Ksenia Malykh and Leonid Marushchak, while the public program is curated by KatiaKhimeie Ivanna Kozachenko. The project is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, UNESCO, Sushko Philanthropy, the NGO "Museum Open for Renovation," and the Promprylad Art Center.

Evacuated from the front in 2024, the sculpture traveled an itinerary tracing some crucial moments in Ukraine’s recent history. Before arriving in Venice, Origami Deer will be on view in several European cities: Warsaw, Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Brussels and Paris, offering the public an opportunity to meet the work along its journey. Details of the program in each city can be found on the official page of the Ukrainian Pavilion. In Venice, the project is spread over two venues. The sculpture will be displayed in a public space on the Riva Ca’ di Dio, while the Ukrainian Pavilion at theArsenale will host archival materials and video documentation of the work’s relocation and European journey.
