Within the framework of the mission to Kiev of the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, Davide La Cecilia, the signing ceremony of theagreement between Italy and UNESCO for a financial contribution of 500 thousand euros, from the Italian Cooperation, aimed at making a first cover to the roof of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration in Odessa took place. This is an important intervention to protect one of the symbolic buildings of the city’s cultural and religious history.
“Italy is strongly committed, with its institutions and production system, to supporting the reconstruction of Ukraine,” said Ambassador Pier Francesco Zazo. “As also mentioned by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, we have an extraordinary capacity in the protection and preservation of international cultural and urban heritage.”
“Our project stems from the desire to involve, on the basis of a proposal of the Milan Triennale and the MAXXI Museum in Rome, which the Farnesina is carrying out together with the Ministry of Culture, creative people and designers, international cultural institutions, Italian companies and economic entities for an urban and architectural regeneration of Ukrainian cities, starting with Odessa, whose patronage we have assumed, in a logic of green, digital and sustainable transformation,” emphasized Special Envoy La Cecilia.
The agreement was signed by Ambassador Pier Francesco Zazo, for Italy, and UNESCO director for Ukraine, Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, for the international organization, in the presence of Special Envoy Davide La Cecilia and the head of the regional office of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in Kiev, Pietro Pipi.
