Sotheby's launches a partnership with a school and raffles off 3 scholarships for children

Sotheby's Italy is launching a collaboration with a school, BDC School, and is offering 3 ICARE-sponsored scholarships for children and young people as prizes.

For the first time Sotheby’s Italy is making a partnership with a school, namely BDC School, an international bilingual school, and is offering 3 scholarships as prizes. This is the Art Business project, an educational initiative that aims to demonstrate how it is possible to unite educational institutions and industry professionals to create meaningful opportunities for young people, upper primary and middle school (9-14 years old) by promoting entrepreneurship and artistic culture.

Through this initiative, in partnership with Sotheby’s Italy, the BDC School hopes to inspire and encourage young people to pursue their passion for art and entrepreneurship. Participants will have the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of art industry professionals and auction houses to learn the skills needed to run an art business and participate in a professional auction.

But it is not only the school’s students who will benefit from this initiative as the BDC School opens its doors to the public through an art review, titled Art to Heart. All children and young people in the Milan area will be able to send in their artwork (e.g., drawings, paintings on canvas or jewelry, made from different materials) by June 30, 2023, BDC School will then offer them the freedom to express their creativity, and, the three most original and out-of-the-ordinary entries will be awarded, as a prize, a scholarship sponsored by ICARE for the after-school art course at the BDC School headquarters in Milan (Via dei Fontanili 3, Milan). In fact, ICARE’s mission is to raise funds to offer scholarships to all those deserving children, making an educational path of excellence inclusive, and intends to be a point of reference to encourage and support schools and families in finding and developing the talent of each young person by offering a sports and STEAM education.

For scholarship winners, in ICARE’s after school art course they will be able to meet other artists, share their passions and discover new worlds, and will be surrounded by passionate and experienced teachers who will guide them every step of the way.

Irene Piazza Roncoroni, founder and CEO of BDC School says, “Our Art Business project is designed to offer children a comprehensive education that not only prepares them for the world of work in the future, but is also inclusive and reflects the cultural and artistic diversity of our society. We want to provide our young students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in any career field they choose to pursue, including the arts and auction industry.”

To crown this collaboration on June 8, 2023, there will be a dedicated event, the Paintings, Scultpture and Jewellery auction, organized by Sotheby’s Italia at BDC School’s headquarters at Via dei Fontanili 3 in Milan, in which all the “works” created by the school’s children and youth will be presented and sold. The jury will be composed of a committee of professionals and experts in the school, art market of National and International fame: Irene Piazza Roncoroni (CEO BDC School), Marta Garofalo (Head of Education), Anna Karklins (Art Business Expert) and a representative of Sotheby’s Italia and a representative of ICARE. All proceeds from the auction will be donated directly to ICARE in support of scholarships for specialized art courses co the BDC School.

To participate by making your own artwork (a painting, drawing, sculpture, jewelry) simply take a photo of it and send it to rassegnaartistica@bdcschool.eu by June 30, 2023, indicating your full name, date of birth, school of origin, and an explanation of the artwork in a paragraph. The three winners selected by a professional jury will be announced in September 2023. For more information and to register: rassegnaartistica@bdcschool.eu
