Antonella Caroli is as of today the new president of Italia Nostra. A Trieste native with a degree in architecture, she was formerly director of the Institute of Maritime Port Culture in Trieste and has held numerous other positions.

Professor Antonella Caroli is as of today the new president of Italia Nostra. A native of Trieste, after having served for a long time in the association, as president of the Trieste section, and in protective roles in cultural heritage, she is the 15th president to lead the historic association, now in its 66th year. Caroli succeeds art historian Ebe Giacometti in the post.

Director of the Institute of Maritime Port Culture in Trieste (until April 2015), Secretary General of the Trieste Port Authority (2000-2004), she graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Turin (the city where she lived until 1982). A former MiBACT Honorary Inspector, she has been involved in the rescue of unpublished and unexplored archives for many years. Together with Italia Nostra and the International Scientific Committee for the Porto Vecchio of Trieste, she is committed to the development, protection and restoration of historic port structures and to the establishment of the Museum Pole. With international scholars of historic ports, she has published numerous texts on the Port of Trieste, historic bathing establishments, Kunstgewerbeschules, nautical societies and the historic city. Member with ministerial appointment to the Miramare Marine Reserve (2001/2005), TICCIH (The International Comitee for Conservation the Industrial Heritage), AIPAI (Italian Association for Industrial Archaeological Heritage) and founder of the International Women’s Biennial Association. A former tenured lecturer in technical and nautical institutes, teaching assistant for the Restoration area at IUAV in Venice (1997-99), adjunct lecturer (Economic Geography-Port Systems) at International Diplomatic Sciences of Gorizia - University of Trieste (2002-2004) and lecturer of Mechanical Technology and Marine Machinery for Sea Operators at the Nautical Institute of Trieste “A. Volta.”
