Rome, street artists pay homage to Proietti in anticipation of a large mural dedicated to him

Rome will dedicate a large mural to Gigi Proietti. Meanwhile, street art works dedicated to him have already appeared in the capital.

The neighborhood of Rome where Gigi Proietti grew up, Tufello, will host an expansive mural (11 x 15 meters) in memory of the great actor, thanks to an initiative desired by the Lazio Region together with Ater Roma and in collaboration with As Roma’s Fondazione Roma Cares. The work will be created by Lucamaleonte on a facade in Via Tonale, where the Roman actor spent his childhood.

“It is our tribute to Proietti,” commented Lazio Region President Nicola Zingaretti, “which we wanted because for all of us he was much more than a great actor. I am sure that also thanks to this work Proietti’s sly smile will continue, as it has been all these years, to bring happiness to Romans.”

Meanwhile, at Tufello, a street art work already pays homage to the actor who passed away on Nov. 2: created by Harry Greb, it depicts a smiling young Proietti holding a hat, looking up, and three small birds, one of which is resting on his hand.

A tribute to the great master was also made by street artist Maupal for the Brancaccio Theater in collaboration with the Facebook page Il Socio ACI dedicated to the great films of Italian comedy. “As a Roman, being commissioned to portray the great Gigi Proietti was a great honor for me,” Maupal wrote on social. “It is precisely Roman-ness that makes me feel viscerally united with this giant. A thin but very strong thread unites us: it is made of deep knowledge of the social humus of our Rome. In my opinion, Gigi Proietti’s greatest gift has always been his humility, matched only by his lordliness. My hope is that his dedication to others, especially young artists, can become an example to follow.”
