Rai5 devotes an entire day to museums with a 24-hour marathon

On May 18, from 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next day, Rai 5 is dedicating an entire day to Italian Museums: a marathon with 24 hours of documentaries that will stop at 40 different museums to tell, with museums, our history from the Etruscans to the present day.

An entire day on TV dedicated to museums: scheduled for May 18 is Rai 5’s Italian Museums marathon, which with a 24-hour program will take viewers on a journey through the history of our country that will stop at 40 different museums to tell the story of our culture from the earliest Etruscan artifacts to the most recent works of contemporary art.

Led by Neri Marcorè, from the studio of Art Night, through Rai Cultura documentaries the public will visit the brand-new Maxxi L’Aquila, which will open in 2021, and also the oldest of Italian museums, the Capitoline Museums in Rome, passing through the Uffizi Galleries in Florence, but also the Archaeological Park of Baia, which preserves its works at about 10 meters below sea level, and others.

Each of these places preserves and protects a part of our history, through works of art, archaeological finds and many other materials, which testify to the lives and creativity of those who have gone before us. There are the great private collections that have become public collections such as the Galleria Borghese in Rome, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice or the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin. There are the great palaces that have been backdrops to the events of history, such as the Capodimonte Museum and Real Bosco in Naples, or the Ducal Palace in Urbino. Then there are contemporary museums, often designed by great architects, such as the Mart in Rovereto, with the idea of creating a place of encounter and comparison. Because the museum is not just a place for the preservation of memory, but a complex organization that works to make its heritage accessible to the public, an inclusive space that offers opportunities for understanding the world, through critical dialogue about the past and reflection on the future. And so space for the behind-the-scenes story of a museum, of the people who work there, but also of the repositories that hold countless works that cannot always be visited.
