With the announcement of the winners, the exhibition of the 70 finalist artists of Arteam Cup 2023, the national art competition promoted by theArteam Cultural Association of Albissola Marina (Savona) under the patronage of the City of Savona, concluded on Saturday, January 6, 2024. For the second consecutive year, the final exhibition was hosted inside the Commissioner’s Palace on the Priamàr Fortress in Savona. The award ceremony was held in the Sala della Sibilla in the presence of representatives of the institutions, Livia Savorelli (co-curator with Matteo Galbiati) and Arteam president Diego Santamaria.

Giovanni Lombardini, Alice Padovani, and Marco Tagliafico triumphed in Arteam Cup 2023 by obtaining top honors in the Painting, Sculpture , and Photography sections. Overall winner of the competition was Marco Tagliafico who, in addition to the category prizes, won the Espoarte Prize. All prizes were awarded to the artists by a professional jury, composed of Daniele Capra (art critic and independent curator), Matteo Galbiati (art critic and lecturer, Espoarte Web Director and internal member of Arteam), Azzurra Immediato (art historianart historian, curator, and critic), Mattia Lapperier (art historian, independent curator, and lecturer), Giulia Ronchi (Editor-in-Chief of Exibart), and Livia Savorelli (Espoarte Editorial Director, internal member of Espoarte).

Marco Tagliafico (Alessandria, 1985) was unanimously decreed by the jury as the winner of the Photography section and overall winner of Arteam Cup 2023 with Il dorso del cielo (2023). The jury’s motivation reads, “The possibility of developing photography according to unconventional parameters finds a shrewd proof in the award-winning work: the artist guides us through a horizon in which the image takes on the contours of an apparition, is a detail that profiles other possibilities and different interpretative outcomes. The installation setting, the need for a dialogue with space, the use of color and black and white, the emphasis on transparencies together foster the conditions for a broad and always ”differently“ engaging reading.”

As the winner of the Photography section, the artist was awarded the following prizes: artist residency in Matera and solo exhibition at Momart Gallery, residency from CasermArcheologica in Sansepolcro (AR), production of a photographic exhibition by Studio Berné in Legnano (MI), monograph produced by the publisher Vanillaedizioni, and Arteam Professional consulting and services throughout 2024.

In addition to the prizes obtained as category winner, Marco Tagliafico also won the prestigious Espoarte Award: a purchase prize worth 2,500 euros gross, a dedicated cover by the end of 2024, a monographic presentation within the same issue, and 50 free copies.

Giovanni Lombardini (Mulazzo di Coriano, Rimini, 1950) was the winner of the Painting section with Pietre Preziose (2023), with the following motivation: “The work bears witness to a particular research on painting and on the value of color and is the outcome of a personal experience that has gone as deep as to observe its intimate phenomenology. Color and light here act as concrete means that, pandering to the fluid alchemy of pigments, define complex forms to eradicate the image from all custom. Painting observes a concreteness that places the result in close relationship with reality and the truth of things, an active fact in the expressive potential of the world.”

As the winner of the Painting section, the artist was awarded the following prizes: a solo exhibition by ArteA Gallery in Milan, a solo exhibition at Tomav - Torre Moresco Visual Arts Center in Moresco (FM), a monograph produced by the publisher Vanillaedizioni, and Arteam Professional consulting and services throughout 2024.

Alice Padovani (Modena, 1979) triumphed in the Sculpture section with Recording (2023). “In the setting of the work,” reads the official presentation, “painting, performance and interactive installation find a happy union that has its focal point of meaning in the relationship with the observer, stimulated plurisensorially in the intimate atmosphere that is defined. The artist lays herself bare, unveils her own intimacy and interiority and offers it for silent listening: it is the sensitivity of the observer and hearer that safeguards the final destination from dark forebodings, offering the redeemed glimmer of ’understanding.’”

As the winner of the Sculpture section, the artist was awarded the following prizes: solo exhibition at Forte Strino (Vermiglio, Trento, Italy), 7-day residency at Dino Zoli Textile in Forlì (FC) and solo exhibition in the spaces of Fondazione Dino Zoli in Forlì (FC), 7-day residency at Officina 900 in Albisola Superiore (SV), monograph produced by the publisher Vanillaedizioni, and Arteam Professional consulting and services throughout 2024.

The following prizes were also awarded: Under 30 Special Prize to Federica Gottardello, Camilla Gurgone, Simone Scardino, Giuliano Vaccai; Cascina Granbego Artist Residency Prize to Martina Cioffi; Espoarte Editorial Prize to Navid Azimi Sajadi and Ivano Troisi; Segno Editorial Prize to Monica Gorini and Filippo Riniolo.
