The installation of the monumental version of Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Venus of rags, designed specifically for Piazza Municipio in Naples, has begun. The initiative is part of Napoli Contemporanea, the program wanted by the City Council for the summer of 2023 curated by Vincenzo Trione, which aims to strengthen the city’s vocation for the contemporary through a series of initiatives designed specifically for public spaces and museum sites by some of the protagonists of the art of our time.

In addition to the monumental Venus of Rags, an installation by Antonio Marras entitled These Ghosts of Mine has been inaugurated in the spaces of Vicoletto San Pietro a Majella and Rampe del Salvatore, in collaboration with the University of Naples Federico II, the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples and the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella. There will also be an installation by Gaetano Pesce for the Rotonda Diaz in collaboration with the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory.

However, there will be many other events among exhibitions and installations of Napoli Contemporanea 2023. The will of the mayor and the entire municipal administration is to create a direct relationship with the citizenry. In this perspective, the season of the contemporary intends to contribute to nurture a process of urban redevelopment by involving high-profile national and international artists and personalities belonging to different generations working in the area, inviting them to intervene in squares, streets, cloisters, neighborhoods.
