On Friday, August 21, Perugia's historic center will be transformed into an open-air art gallery thanks to 75 artists who will create their works here

Seventy-five artists are involved in a major widespread event in which Perugia’s historic center will be transformed into an open-air art gallery. From Piazza Italia to Porte Sole, the Umbrian capital will be the protagonist on Friday, Aug. 21, of an art competition organized by a group of local merchants to cope with the difficulties caused by the pandemic. Artists are invited to create their works on the theme Perugia and its beauties, panoramas and city views.

All along the historic center, painters will place their canvases and be inspired by the city’s panoramas and artistic and cultural heritage. For the occasion, two guided tours (at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.) are planned under the title Perugia Grand Tour: a walk along Corso Vannucci to the Fontana Maggiore to discover the city’s history, on a journey from Etruscan times to the Renaissance. Reservations required, (for info and reservation 371/3116801). To participate in the guided tour lasting about an hour, the cost is 10 euros per person, free up to 12 years old.

The contest aims to promote and enhance the landscape, historical monuments and corners of Perugia and to renew the city’s historical and artistic tradition.

The competing works will be evaluated by a technical jury, which will examine each painting individually and then award the first, second and third prizes of one thousand euros, seven hundred euros and four hundred euros, respectively. Two honored guests will then choose two other works that will each be awarded three hundred euros. The Brotherhood of the Sopramuro will award an additional ten “reporting” prizes. Finally, a “lifetime achievement award” will be given.
