A series of online meetings to learn about the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo di Pisa

Thursday, Jan. 14 at 5 p.m. begins a series of meetings on the site of the Opera della Primaziale Pisana to learn about the Museum of the Opera del Duomo in Pisa.

Entitled Nuovi Miracoli (New Miracles ), the cycle of lectures organized online by theOpera della Primaziale Pisana and the Società Storica Pisana will be a series of meetings to lead the public to discover the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Pisa, and is designed to partially compensate for the painful choice of its closure, which occurred only a few months after its inauguration due to the health emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The series will begin on Thursday, Jan. 14, at 5 p.m.: a rich program schedule will devote ample space to the protagonists of the new Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. In the intense program of restoration and renovation works in the monumental complex under its protection, the most far-reaching commitment of the Opera della Primaziale Pisana is in fact represented by the complete renovation and reorganization of the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, both as a building and as an exhibition itinerary.

The complex operation began in 2015 with the closure of the Museum and ended in October 2019 with the inauguration of the new structure. Five years during which the reflections of a scientific commission of scholars, charged since 2010 with examining more current museological choices, were resumed and deepened, to be then translated into the language of a modern museographic layout, outlined, verified and prepared in the smallest design details by a team of architects.

Opening the calendar of appointments will be precisely the protagonists of this vast operation: medieval art historian Marco Collareta and the architects of Studio Guicciardini & Magni, who have established an intense dialogue to return to the public of scholars and enthusiasts a museum that now stands at the level of the best European standards. The meetings will alternate on a monthly basis and will address individual topics entrusted to internationally renowned specialists, capable not only of ensuring the success of the initiative but also of offering the widest emphasis on the activities carried out in the five-year period 2015-2020 by the Opera.
