ART VIEW Festival: final day is dedicated to artist Artemisia Gentileschi

On Sunday, May 19, the Art View festival "Women in Art" at the City of Theater in Cascina (Pisa) pays tribute to the figure of Artemisia Gentileschi with meetings and performances.

On Sunday, May 19, at Cascina ’s Città del Teatro in Pisa, the final day of the ART VIEW “Women in Art” festival will be dedicated to Artemisia Gentileschi (Rome, 1593 - Naples, between 1652 and 1656), a 17th-century Italian painter who is considered one of the most important female artists of the Baroque period. Born in Rome in 1593, Artemisia is known for her intense depictions of strong, powerful women, inspired by her personal experiences of violence.

The first event dedicated to the artist will begin in the afternoon with the reading “With Artemisia’s Eyes” by Marco Antonio Bazzocchi and Marinella Manicardi, which is an exploration of a character who still attracts with all her ambiguities as a woman and an artist. The two-voice lecture interweaves the real voice of Artemisia with the voice of the Artemisia recreated in Anna Banti’s book. It will be followed at 6:30 p.m. by "Artemisia Gentileschi. Impossible Interview" in which actress Amanda Sandrelli will play Artemisia interviewed by Professor Adriano Fabris, President of the Italian Society of Philosophy. It is indeed an opportunity, thanks to Daniela Morelli’s dramaturgy, to delve into the artistic and human story of the 17th-century painter. At 9 p.m., the last event of the festival will be "Claroscuro De Artemisia," a creation that weaves contemporary dance, music and theater to represent the figure of the painter. Through the performance, dancer Ana Continente and violagambist Pilar Almalé tell the story of the artist’s life. The performance won the Santa Isabel de Portugal award for best dance performance 2023.

The Art View Festival will be held in Cascina, Pisa, from Saturday, May 11 to Sunday, May 19 with events, meetings, exhibitions, performances and concerts to talk about "women in art." The festival, organized by Fondazione Sipario Toscana, is realized with the contribution of Fondazione Pisa.
