Fantini Mosaics and Brera Academy together for an exhibition and competition on the art of mosaics

Fantini Mosaics has promoted a creative competition for young talents, in collaboration with the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. An exhibition with the selected and awarded works will be held from April 18 to 23 in the Magnolia Courtyard.

For the first time in its 120-year history, Fantini Mosaici has promoted a creative competition for young talents,"A Tale of Beauty, Decor, Matter and Surfaces. Investigation into the expressive forms of mosaic art." Conceived and promoted in collaboration with theBrera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, the call for entries was launched in December 2022 to all students studying at the Academy. Young talents were invited to interpret, in the utmost authorship of their own poetic and figurative language, the representative potential of mosaic art. To create avisual work designed to be reproduced in mosaic, with stone and glass materials.

“The aim is first of all to understand how a very ancient and classical art like mosaic can also interpret the figurations and languages of our contemporary culture,” said Enrico Fantin, CEO of Fantini Mosaici.

From April 18 to 23, 2023, during Milan Design Week, the selected and then awarded works will be exhibited at the Brera Academy: twenty-one different artistic and poetic interpretations on the art of mosaic. The winning works will also be translated into physical, mosaic works by the high craftsmanship of Fantini Mosaici. A catalog recounting the entire talent scouting operation is now being published: the overall objectives, the prizes and the jury, composed of Maria Cristina Galli, Deputy Director Brera Academy; Dany Vescovi, Director School of Painting Brera Academy; Felice Martinelli, Professor of Urban and Territorial Interventions Design Brera Academy; Laura Traldi, Editorial Coordinator internimagazine.it / curator DWProfessional; Sandra Kapp, Head of Content and Special Projects Fantini Mosaics; Massimo Bruto Randone, Founder Cxine; Alessandro Consolo, Founder Consolo Hub.

The exhibition will be set up in the Magnolia Courtyard inside the Academy building, next to the Botanical Garden and Astronomical Observatory, and will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The award ceremony for the winners is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19, at 4 p.m. in the Magnolia Courtyard, also the venue for the exhibition. Throughout the exhibition period, there will be a workshop table where artisans from Fantini Mosaics will hold training and information activities on the arts and techniques of hand-punched mosaic craftsmanship of excellence.

“Many generations of artists and artisans for centuries have worked around the poetic and expressive values of figurative and decorative material. A long relationship of respect and challenge between Art and Nature that has been articulated within the polarity between technical skill (Mimesis-μίμησις) and interpretive will (Poësis),” said Massimo Bruto Randone, curator of the Fantini Mosaics Academy Project.

The competition is also the first stage of the Fantini Mosaics Academy Project. A long-term journey that aims to engage young talents from around the world in interpreting the representative potential of mosaic art in our contemporary times. A research project that is part of the broader and historic Fantini Mosaics Art Program, whose origins date back to the 1930s.
