Theatrical performances... on headphones in the archaeological parks of Appia and Ancient Ostia and Tivoli

From April 10 to June 5, 2022, every weekend, the public will be able to visit the historic parks of Appia Antica, Ostia Antica and Tivoli through real listening dramaturgies... in headphones. Twenty-two performances of Ancient Memories with Mobile Theater - Listening Dramaturgies and New Perceptions will make it possible to learn about these places through experiences that combine live performance and new technologies.

Unpublished dramaturgies, premiered and adapted to different places, will be experienced: they will be listened to in the innovative “headphone” mode, and the casts of the various shows will be joined by performances by Paolo Bonacelli, Evelina Meghnagi and Galatea Ranzi.

The Teatro Mobile project, produced in partnership with Illoco Teatro, offers a journey between ancient and contemporary: it starts in April from the via Appia Antica, with a series of events conceived on the route of the regina viarum; in May, it will go out of Rome towards the sea, on the route of the via Ostiense, to get to know the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica, with its streets, houses, temples and its theater, up to, in the municipality of Fiumicino, places recently reopened to the public such as the Port of Trajan, the Museum of the Ships and the Necropolis of Porto. In June, following the Via Tiburtina, we will go to Tivoli’s Villa Adriana Park, Villa d’Este.

The formula of headphone theater guarantees zero-impact events, without sets or additional lighting and without acoustic impact, and which meet the needs of protection and respect for the places as well as the needs of the spectator-visitor: with the use of radio transmission and digital control technology, the spectator participates in the event (also itinerant) by listening to the textual, sound and musical score from the sterilized headphones with which he or she is equipped at the beginning of the journey. The happenings, visual and spatial, are the live actor actions: traversed spaces and spectacular visions, staging designed as installations with involvement of actors, experts and live musicians. Viewers move in groups, guided through the journey with encounters-appearances of actors, artists, musicians and popularizers.

Before Easter it will already start with some events: on April 10, the first appointment with 15 STAZIONI - Via Crucis Laica nel tempo della Pasqua with site-specific dramaturgy by Pina Catanzariti, with Galatea Ranzi and Dario Carbone, and with the participation of Evelina Meghnagi, which will be held at the former Cartiere Latine; it will be followed by on April 15, Judas according to Giuseppe Berto, a monologue that, articulated as a confession of what happened, reveals Judas as a perfect embodiment of torment; and again, on Saturday, April 16, 15 STATIONS returns in a version in the form of a migrant journey along two of the most evocative stretches of the Via Appia Antica, from San Sebastiano to the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella.
