Running from today until Feb. 11 at the Piomonti Gallery in Rome is"11-The Alchemical Door," an exhibition by contemporary artist Franco Losvizzero that combines art withalchemy,esotericism and legend.

The alchemical door of the title is said to be an entrance door to the Villa Palombara, in Piazza Vittorio in Rome, whose owner was Marquis Massimiliano Palombara.

Legend has it that one night the marquis hosted an alchemist in the villa who would be able to transform matter into gold if he found the philosopher’s stone, but the next morning the guest disappeared through the door, however, leaving behind some gold straws and scrolls with alchemical symbols and inscriptions that the marquis later had made on the door.

The performance-appearance exhibition consists of 11 works, among which the protagonist is"The Magic Rabbit,“ a naked woman painted white and wearing a rabbit mask on her face, a symbol of purity and beauty. The ”white rabbit" was produced thanks to Oniride a leading company in new digital technologies.

The artist said, “The door is a passage from one place to another, from one dimension to another. My characters are ’conductors,’ guiding us beyond ”Alice’s mirror"; the White Rabbit in the hole in the ground ... into the"Wonder World“ of the unconscious; in Charon’s performance it was a journey/passage into the underworld, the afterlife. ”Body Memory“ is the place where rituals and symbols, smells and images from the mists of time remain synthesized. Some call it unconscious, some call it soul, that’s where I look, that’s where I find.”
