From January 24 to March 22, 2026, the Rocca di Lonato del Garda will host, in the evocative Sala del Capitano, the exhibition La Via del Sabi - 寂の道 - Sabi No Michi, an exhibition itinerary that relates photography and Japanese ideograms in a silent dialogue dedicated to time, transience and the sober beauty of what remains. The exhibition project stems from the encounter between Andrea Lippi’s photographs and the words and ideograms interpreted by Luigi Gatti, and is connected to the volume of the same name published by Folia Edizioni. At the center is not a descriptive narrative of Japan, but an inner journey: images and signs build a “way” made of silences, suspensions and light presences, in which photography alludes rather than declaring and words accompany without explaining.
Andrea Lippi ’s images are the result of a long research on light in Japanese architectural spaces and landscapes. After his first trip to Japan in 2015, the author initiated a study project that led him to return to the country several times, resulting in Lights of Japan in 2017, which was presented in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In 2024, the work won two honorable mentions at the TIFA and BIFA international awards and was included in an exhibition dedicated to contemporary black-and-white photography in Portland, USA.
Meetings and in-depth events are planned during the exhibition period, including the presentation of the book-catalogue La Via del Sabi (Folia Edizioni, 2026) edited by Andrea Lippi and Luigi Gatti, scheduled for Feb. 14 at 3:30 p.m. in the same exhibition spaces.
