An exhibition recalls the friendship between Ottone Rosai and Ugo Guidi

An exhibition at the Ugo Guidi Museum in Forte dei Marmi recalls the friendship between Ottone Rosai and Ugo Guidi, two great artists of the 20th century. Works from private collections are on display.

Opening tomorrow, Wednesday, August 2, and remaining open until September 22, 2017, the exhibition Ottone Rosai and Ugo Guidi. Memories of a Friendship, at the Ugo Guidi Museum in Forte dei Marmi. The exhibition was created on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the passing of Ottone Rosai (Florence, 1895 - Ivrea, 1957) and the 40th anniversary of that of Ugo Guidi (Montiscendi di Pietrasanta, 1912 - Vittoria Apuana, 1977), is curated by Vittorio Guidi (Ugo’s son and director of the Museum) and will display several works testifying to the bond that united the two artists (it is well known, moreover, that Rosai, together with Piero Santi, had prompted Ugo Guidi to organize, after at least two decades of activity, his first solo exhibition). Works from some private collections will also be exhibited for the first time.

“Ottone Rosai,” explains Vittorio Guidi, “in the early 1950s with his friend the writer and art critic Piero Santi repeatedly stayed at Ugo Guidi’s house, and a relationship of friendship and mutual esteem was established between the three of them, which led to the fact that it was Rosai himself who organized Guidi’s first solo exhibition at La Strozzina Gallery in Palazzo Strozzi in Florence in 1956. Rosai repeatedly stayed at Guidi’s and painted numerous pictures of the sea, the pine forests of Forte dei Marmi and the Apuan Alps, On the sheet of notes executed from life he would record the essential features of the vision and the name of the colors written in the various backgrounds, which he then transformed into oil paintings in Guidi’s pine forest.”

The opening is scheduled for Wednesday, August 2, at 6 p.m., with a presentation by Vittorio Guidi and testimony by Fabrizio Guidi. Afterwards, the exhibition will be open for viewing by appointment. Info at www.ugoguidi.it
