From Sept. 7 to Nov. 9, 2025 , the Appartamento del Duca Antonio Farnese at Rocca Sanvitale in Sala Baganza (Parma) will host the exhibition Nuove Residenze, the result of a project that involved ten students from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, who were invited to confront the frescoes of one of the most significant environments in the Parma Valleys.
The ancient residence, frescoed in 1724 by Sebastiano Galeotti and recently reopened to the public, thus becomes the scene of an unprecedented dialogue between past and present. The works created during the artist residency interweave contemporary languages and historical suggestions, giving rise to new “commissions” capable of reinterpreting tradition. The ten students of the School of Painting experienced and interpreted these environments, letting themselves be inspired by the stratifications of time and the suggestion of the spaces.
The project, sponsored by the Municipality of Sala Baganza, was led by professors Alberto Reggianini and Dario Taormina, with contributions from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Parma. Academics Elisabetta Fadda, Carlo Mambriani and Alessandro Malinverni provided the students with research materials and critical insights, enriching the creative journey.
The opening, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m., will be accompanied by the musical intervention “Di-Stanze,” produced in collaboration with ParmaJazz Frontiere, the Arrigo Boito Conservatory and the Chironomic Orchestra. The exhibition will be open until Nov. 9 every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. (last admission 5:30 p.m.). Access to the exhibition costs 5 euros, while throughout the year the Appartamento Farnese remains open for guided tours.
