At Mart the first Italian anthology of Richard Artschwager

The Mart in Rovereto is hosting Richard Artschwager's first anthological exhibition in Italy until Feb. 2, 2020.

The first anthological exhibition in Italy dedicated to Richard Artschwager (1923-2013), curated by Germano Celant and produced in collaboration with the Guggenheim Bilbao, is on view at the Mart in Rovereto until February 2, 2020.

The exhibition itinerary will trace the artist’s production, from the early 1960s to the first decade of the 2000s, in a sort of open labyrinth through about eighty works, narrating the most significant nuclei of the artist’s creative research: from wood and formica structures to paintings on celotex, from nylon bristle sculptures to corner pieces, the works in horsehair and the small-scale or environmental blp to which Artschwager has been devoted since 1968.

His art could be described as balancing craftsmanship and industrialization, and he has been an artist who has been able to rethink the object and the operating field of art with regard to both everyday objects and the people who inhabit the space.

Thanks to loans from some of the world’s major collections, such as the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Broad Art Foundation in Los Angeles, the Tate in London, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris, the Prada Foundation in Milan, the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation in Basel, and the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, and to the collaboration of some of the most prestigious international galleries such as Gagosian, Georg Kargl, David Nolan, Xavier Hufkens, Sprüth Magers and Galleria Artiaco, the artist’s most important masterpieces are on public display.

After Italy, the anthological exhibition will be hosted from February 28, 2019 to May 10, 2020 in the Basque Country.
