At Milan's PAC, Cesare Viel's largest solo exhibition in a public space: More No One Anywhere

From Oct. 12 to Dec. 1, 2019, Milan's PAC is hosting Cesare Viel's solo exhibition 'More Nobody Anywhere.

PAC Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea in Milan presents from Oct. 12 to Dec. 1, 2019 Più nessuno da nessuna parte, the largest solo exhibition of Cesare Viel (Chivasso, 1964) in a public space, which traces the artist’s performative practice centered on the marriage of visual and verbal representation. Promoted by Comune di Milano - Cultura and produced by PAC with Silvana Editoriale, the exhibition is curated by Diego Sileo and opens on the occasion of the 15th Day of the Contemporary called by AMACI and dedicated to Italian art.

Through performative actions and environmental installations, Viel has been exploring since the early 1990s the processes through which identity is constructed and deconstructed, revealing itself as a place of crossing that preserves the traces of each passage. The exhibition presents previously unseen works and new versions of historical installations and performances, created by the artist in dialogue with the architecture of the PAC.

The places of absence evoked by the title reveal discreet, silent and often ghostly presences that surface from the artist’s experience in a narrative constantly redefined by the relationship with the facts of recent history, social conventions, the thoughts and words of favorite authors or artists, and the proximity or distance of loved ones. Performance, disguise, transformations, makeup, recitations or songs: delving into other bodies and other stories, Viel imagines forms of other subjectivities that interpret art as a moment of emotional exchange and relationship with the community.

In the catalog, published by Silvana Editoriale, new texts by the curator, Francesco Bernardelli, Emanuela De Cecco, Francesca Guerisoli, Laura Guglielmi, Antonio Leone and Cesare Viel himself. Accompanying the public among the works is a free guide to the exhibition edited by Paola Valenti, professor of Contemporary Art History at theUniversity of Genoa.
