The world's largest-ever monograph devoted to Pieter Bruegel the Elder is on display at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.

A major exhibition dedicated to Pieter Bruegel the Elder, entitled"Once in a Lifetime," is on view at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna until January 13, 2019.

On the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the death of Pieter Bruegel the Elder (Breda, c. 1525/1530 - Brussels, 1569), about half of all the works created by the artist have been brought together in a single exhibition; consider that today about forty paintings, sixty drawings, and eighty prints can be attributed to him.
The exhibition is the world’s largest monographic exhibition ever devoted to Bruegel. this was made possible through close collaboration among scholars, experts, and museums from around the world.

The exhibition is divided chronologically and thematically, so that visitors can study and enjoy the Flemish artist’s style and the impressive variety of works he produced during his activity.

Among the works on display are Tower of Babel from the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, Triumph of Death from the Prado in Madrid,Adoration of the Magi from the National Gallery in London, Haymaking from the collections of the Lobkowicz in Prague, Battle in the Port of Naples from the Doria Pamphilij Gallery in Rome, Dulle Grier from the Mayer van den Bergh Museum in Antwerp, Two Monkeys from the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin, and numerous other masterpieces.

The exhibition is curated by Eike Oberthaler, Sabine Pénot, Manfred Sellink, and Ron Spronk.

Hours: Daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Every Friday there is “An Evening with Bruegel” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
