From December 3, 2022 to February 5, 2023, Palazzo d'Accursio in Bologna will host the exhibition "Norma Mascellani (1909-2009). Secrets from the Twentieth Century." More than 100 paintings, archival documents and a recently discovered correspondence are brought together for the occasion.

Palazzo d’Accursio in Bologna hosts from December 3, 2022 to February 5, 2023 the exhibition Norma Mascellani (1909-2009). Secrets from the Twentieth Century, curated by Francesca Sinigaglia and promoted by Bologna for the Arts. The exhibition focuses on the life and career of Bolognese painter Norma Mascellani through more than one hundred paintings made between the 1930s and 2009 from the Norma Mascellani Fund and many private collections.

The exhibition will bring together for the first time, along with the works, a rich archival documentation and valuable correspondence, which was recently discovered, to analyze the relationships between the painter and artists of her time, such as Giorgio Morandi, Alfredo Protti, Giovanni Romagnoli, Alessandro Cervellati and others. The significant body of documents also includes engravings, unpublished catalogs, and photographs.

Accompanying the exhibition is a scholarly catalog edited by Francesca Sinigaglia that includes scholarly and in-depth texts on the artist’s private archival material. In particular, the private dynamics between Norma Mascellani and Carlo Savoia, who linked their destinies in the 1930s, are explored. Also investigated are the relationships between the artist and the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Bologna, as well as with the Fondazione Lercaro and the Soroptimist Club of Bologna.

During the exhibition, the Cultural Dialogues cycle will return to Palazzo d’Accursio in January. The lectures, with free admission, will be held at the Farnese Chapel. Bologna for the Arts will also organize a series of free guided tours with curator Francesca Sinigaglia (for info write to info@bolognaperlearti.it), and daily interns from the University of Bologna will accompany visitors on specialized guided tours, also free of charge.
