Milan’s STRAFhotel, just steps from the Duomo, opens its doors to a new cultural project as part of STRAFhub, a year-round program that enlivens the hotel’s spaces and consolidates its role as an incubator of contemporary creativity. From March 18 to April 18, artistic duo Goldschmied & Chiari present AMBIENTS. Space as Experience, a site-specific intervention that explores the relationships between art, architecture and the urban context through photography, video and performance.
The project revolves around an installation on the lobby’s large glass window, inspired by one of the duo’s Untitled Views: images of colored clouds generated with smoke bombs, flanked by a video documenting the entire process. The work temporarily alters the perception of space, transforming the lobby into an environment of light filtered by translucent films. Those who walk through the space directly experience a sensory effect involving sight and surrounding space, placing the interaction between viewer and architecture at the center.
STRAFhub transforms the hotel into a temporary gallery, where art dialogues with the identity of the space and offers new perspectives. The experience of ENVIRONMENTS invokes the idea that what sticks in the memory of a place is not only the architectural design, but the alchemy of light, sound, color and sensations that define the personal interaction with the environment. The project therefore invites the public to reflect on how we perceive and remember the spaces we pass through on a daily basis.
