Giovanni Bonelli Gallery opens new space in Milan with "The Future Will Be Weird"

The Milanese gallery moves from Isola to Corvetto and opens with the exhibition The Future Will Be Weird, open from April 14 to June 13, which puts Mattia Moreni in dialogue with contemporary artists.

Galleria Giovanni Bonelli officially opens its new space at 20 Via Arcivescovo Romilli in Milan with an exhibition entitled The Future Will Be Weird, an exhibition proposal, curated by Denis Isaia, that is characterized by a caustic, post-prophetic and punk approach, conceived as a celebration of the freedom of art as a necessary form of resistance. The opening, scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, at 7 p.m., marks the relocation of the gallery’s historic headquarters from the Isola area to Corvetto, a neighborhood undergoing a strong urban transformation that concentrates some of the most vital institutions on the Milanese art scene. The exhibition will remain open until June 13, 2026.

The Future Will Be Weird initiates an exhibition program aimed at generating unexpected relationships between historicized masters and contemporary artists. At the center of the proposal is the work of Mattia Moreni (1920-1999), a major figure in 20th-century European art, remembered for his radical and nonconformist role. As pointed out by Isaia, curator of the exhibition, Moreni was an “explosive painter who sailed through the history of painting from the late 1950s to the 1990s with often unparalleled mastery.” The exhibition path confronts the historical artist with a constellation of authors belonging to different generations, including Vedovamazzei, Nicola Samorì, Vera Portatadino, Alessandro Pessoli, Giovanni Morbin, Enrico Minguzzi, Pesce Khete, Gelitin, Silvia Dal Dosso, Cult of Magic, Pierpaolo Campanini and Giovanni Blanco. The initiative was created in collaboration with Associazione Mattia and Archivio Mattia Moreni, two entities concerned with the preservation and promotion of the master’s artistic legacy.
