Guerrino Tramonti's ceramics on display in Rome, Villa Torlonia

From June 11 to September 27, Villa Torlonia (Rome) opens the exhibition Alchemy of Earth and Light. The Thousand Faces of Ceramics by Guerrino Tramonti (Faenza 1915- 1992), all dedicated to the Faenza artist considered among the most interesting and prolific creators of ceramic works of art in the 1900s.

Starting with painting, as a ceramist he proposed innovations in both form and technique and materials. In fact, he brought porcelain stoneware to Faenza and experimented with original forms of glazing.

His long activity as director of Art Institutes fostered his willingness to experiment with new forms of applied art including the art of tapestry. All this started from a solid foundation of drawing and painting, which constitute as many forms of expression in his vast repertoire. His House-Museum, in Faenza, opened in 1987, collects about 390 works distributed in 7 rooms and, since 2010, is home to the Guerrino Tramonti Foundation, promoter of the Roman exhibition. Tramonti’s work is also widely historicized through a series of exhibitions in Italy, particularly in Rome at Palazzo Venezia in 2009, in Urbino in the House of Raphael in 2010 and in Japan, where his works were exhibited in a two-year tour that then ended at the Museo Internazionale della Ceramica (MIC) in Faenza in 2013. This museum, by the way, has numerous works by Tramonti on display. Works by the artist can also be seen permanently at the Sinopia Gallery in Rome.

The exhibition is set up in the Casina delle Civette, a splendid treasure chest of applied arts, whose library is dedicated precisely to these arts, representing, therefore, the ideal container for the exhibition of a selected series of works harmoniously inserted in the various rooms with specific references between the color of the stained glass windows and the translucent color of the ceramic surfaces. In the Dependency, works with more vivid chromatics were included, especially the very special glazed plates with thick crystalline, paintings and tapestries. Some 50 works, in all, are on display.

The exhibition is organized by the Guerrino Tramonti Foundation in collaboration with the Coop. Sociale “Apriti Sesamo” and the antiquarian-contemporary art gallery "Sinopia, " under the patronage of the City of Faenza and MIC (Museum of Ceramics).
