Im-perfection: a contemporary art group show at C-Gallery in Milan, Italy

C-Gallery in Milan is hosting "Im-perfection," an exhibition that will showcase international artists such as Mwangi Hutter, Amira Parree, Maurice Pefura, Lerato Shadi and Vincent Witomski from Sept. 18 to Nov. 2, 2018. The theme of the exhibition is the search for imperfection by shaking off the outward beauty that has so fueled vanity fairs obsessed with the pursuit of perfection. “Im-perfection” draws on the Wabi Sabi philosophy, popular in 14th-century Japan, which summed up this idea in three simple realities: Nothing is perfect; Nothing is complete; Nothing is permanent.

“Theirs is a profound and uniquely human quest: the constant duality and fluidity of life and death, male and female, black and white, movement and stillness, outside and inside, ying and yang,” explains curator Elena Korzhenevich, about the exhibiting artists. “An existential dance, wonderfully choreographed, in search of absolute freedom.”

“My encounter with Mwangi Hutter’s work was a thunderbolt,” Korzhenevich says further, “it went through me with a shock, powerful and immediate, that needed no filter, no recognition.” The exhibition will open Tuesday through Saturday, 3 to 7 p.m.
