Mangano Galleria d’Arte, in Cremona, presents from Oct. 18, 2025, to Jan. 10, 2026, Omar Galliani ’s solo exhibition Nuovi Angeli - Nuove Carte, entirely dedicated to works on paper in which drawing meets the theme of the sacred.
Curated by Pierpaolo Mangano and accompanied by a critical text by Francesco Mutti, the exhibition brings together a selection of papers made from 1979 to 2025. Also on display are numerous unpublished pencil or pastels on paper works, part of the cycle that gives the exhibition its title Nuovi Angeli.
“There is a suspended time that only paper knows,” writes the curator. “It is the time of drawing, of the sign that rests slowly, like dust on the centuries. In a world that forgets the hand, Galliani reaffirms the primacy of drawing. Omar Galliani, undisputed master of graphite, returns in this exhibition to the essential grammar of gesture: drawing on paper, the original place where art does not shout, but whispers. His angels - not those of altarpieces, but secular, introverted, almost intimate figures - inhabit this fragile and sumptuous universe made of sheets, glazes, chiaroscuro. They are angels who do not need dogma: all they need is a pencil, a hand and a reminiscent gaze. Galliani does not paint the sacred, he teaches it to breathe in the present, with the patience of the goldsmith and the memory of the Renaissance.”
“If all the angels looking at the world would hold tight and, invoking a last flight within the last light, open that window that allows no passage and together hold all the stars in a fist of rays absorbed and confused in the last time of all time,” Omar Galliani writes, “then my blue, red, black drawings, the colorless would also burn with an ancient stake. My angels fly low holding tight the pastels, pencils and sheets of timeless hands. They fly low over new tattooed faces between codes of East and West, greeting with closed eyes the angels who from Correggio to Vogue traverse the ways of the world.”
The catalog, available in the gallery, includes critical texts by Francesco Mutti and Pierpaolo Mangano, a poetic note by Omar Galliani and documentation of the works on display.
The exhibition is open to the public Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., every morning, Saturday and Sunday by appointment
