In Florence, Marison Ray's monumental Vertigo, inspired by Michelangelo's Last Judgment

From April 1 to May 29, 2022, the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence presents Vertigine by Marison Ray, a monumental work inspired by Michelangelo's Last Judgment.

The Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence presents from April 1 to May 29, 2022, Marison Ray ’s exhibition entitled Vertigo, curated by Alessandro Vezzosi. It is a project that stems from the artist’sattraction to Michelangelo ’s Last Judgment, which led her to create amonumental work whose structure, specially created by an internationally renowned craftsman, is 7.60 meters high and 7 meters wide.

Symbolisms can be observed in the large painted canvas as a testimony and denunciation of the current situation and serious social and environmental problems.

“The artist highlights the desire to experiment with unconscious inventions and fascinations, along the trajectory of perception and through eddies and tangles of chromatics, in disrupted anatomies and perspectives; he intends to discover the possibilities of ascending and sinking: vertigoes of our fears and exaltations,” the curator states.

The work will be placed with a sophisticated and specially designed system in the exhibition venue of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence and can be admired through ascenographic immersive experience.

"For the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, hosting this unpublished work, with its accompanying preparatory sketches, in the exhibition venue on Via Ricasoli is also a valuable opportunity to return to the topicality of Michelangelo Buonarroti’s art, which served here as a trigger for the inspiration of an artist like Ray, an authentic protagonist of contemporary creativity," added Cristina Acidini, president of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno.

The exhibition, coordinated by Claudio Guida, is realized with the technical support and collaboration of CPA Service-Turin.

Hours: Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.; Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Closed Mondays. Free admission.
